Why convert CSV to QBO?
QuickBooks imports bank transactions most reliably from QBO files, also called Web Connect files. Many banks and credit unions only let you download a CSV, and QuickBooks Desktop can't import CSV bank files at all. Converting the CSV to QBO lets you bring in months of transactions at once, keep payee names, and avoid typing them in by hand.
It's especially useful for catch-up bookkeeping, closed accounts, banks that don't connect to QuickBooks, and moving history into a new QuickBooks company file.
Questions
Is this CSV to QBO converter free?
Yes. Convert as many CSV files to QBO as you need, with no sign-up and no watermark.
Is my bank data safe?
Your file is read and converted inside your own browser. It is never uploaded to a server, so nobody else can see your transactions.
Which banks does it work with?
Any bank or credit card that lets you download transactions as a CSV file, including Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Capital One, American Express, credit unions and online banks. The converter finds the date, description and amount columns automatically, and you can correct them if needed.
Does it work with credit card CSV files?
Yes. Choose Credit card as the account type. Some card companies list charges as positive numbers. When that happens, the converter reverses the signs so charges import as charges and payments as payments.
QuickBooks says the file can't be imported. What now?
QuickBooks Desktop checks the bank ID inside the file. Open Advanced settings, change the QuickBooks bank ID to a bank QuickBooks supports, and download again. Also make sure you're importing a checking file into a bank account and a credit card file into a credit card account.
Will importing the same file twice create duplicates?
Each transaction gets a stable ID based on its date, amount and description, so QuickBooks can recognize transactions it has already imported.
Can I convert a PDF bank statement to QBO?
PDF to QBO conversion is coming soon. For now, download your transactions from your bank as CSV, which almost every bank offers under Download or Export.
