How to import the QBO file into QuickBooks

QuickBooks Online

  1. Go to Transactions, then Bank transactions.
  2. Open the Link account menu and choose Upload from file.
  3. Select the .qbo file you downloaded here.
  4. Pick the QuickBooks account the transactions belong to.
  5. Review the transactions in the For review tab and add or match them.

QuickBooks Desktop

  1. Back up your company file first.
  2. Go to File, then Utilities, Import, Web Connect Files.
  3. Select the .qbo file you downloaded here.
  4. Choose an existing account or create a new one.
  5. Review the transactions in the Bank Feeds Center.

If the account is already connected to online banking, QuickBooks Desktop may ask you to disconnect it before importing.

Why QuickBooks rejects OFX files

OFX, QFX and QBO are close relatives. QFX is OFX with an extra ID for Quicken, and QBO is OFX with an Intuit bank ID that QuickBooks Desktop checks before it will import anything. When your bank only offers OFX or QFX, or its QBO file uses a bank ID QuickBooks no longer accepts, the import fails.

This converter reads every transaction from your file and writes a clean QBO file with a supported bank ID, keeping the original transaction IDs, check numbers and ending balance.

Questions

What is the difference between OFX, QFX and QBO?

They share the same structure. OFX is the open standard, QFX adds a Quicken ID, and QBO adds an Intuit bank ID that QuickBooks Desktop requires.

Can I convert QFX to QBO too?

Yes. Drop a QFX file here, or use the QFX to QBO page.

Will I get duplicate transactions?

No. The converter keeps the bank's original transaction IDs, so QuickBooks recognizes anything it has already imported.

QuickBooks still rejects the file. What now?

Open Advanced settings and try a different QuickBooks bank ID, then download again. Also check that you're importing into the right kind of account, bank or credit card.

Is my data safe?

Your file is read and converted inside your own browser. It is never uploaded to a server, so nobody else can see your transactions.
